The First Doctor
The original incarnation of the Doctor
William Hartnell played the original incarnation of the Doctor between 1963 and 1966, in the first three seasons, and the first two serials of Season 4. Despite ill health, he reprised the role for the 10th anniversary story The Three Doctors (1972-73). Hartnell died in 1975 and Richard Hurndall appeared in the role for the 20th anniversary story The Five Doctors (1983).
