A race of mutants developed by Terry Nation that first appeared in the Season 1 serial "The Daleks". They violent, merciless and pitiless cyborg aliens, who demand total conformity to their will, and bent on the conquest of the universe and the extermination of what they see as inferior races. They would be come one of the most popular of the Doctor's foes, appearing in 20 stories during the classic era. They also appeared in the two big screen adaptations released in 1965 and 1966, and several licensed stage productions.

The Daleks make brief appearances in The Space Museum (Season 2), when one is seen as an exhibit, in The War Games (Season 6), when the Doctor gives evidence in his defence to the Time Lords, and one appears in the Death Zone in The Five Doctors. The Doctor hears a Dalek in the Mind of Evil (Season 8) when he is attacked by the Keller Machine. They also make appearances at the beginning of the Doctor Who TV movie, and in the Comic Relief special The Curse of Fatal Death. None of these are considered Dalek stories. |
